I’ve Hit the character limit!
You can go over the 10,000 character limit if you use the description field in a non-text module. Combine with link lists and plexos to create super lists! (Thanks jeffryv!)
Several of these tools look familiar…
The general inspiration for this site and several tools like the advanced dashboard originated from SquidUtils.com.
The site is a bit sparse looking…
We’re planning on adding more tools, utilities, resources, and services in the future. New services will show up on the home page, sidebar, and integrated into the advanced dashboard as we add them.
Advanced Dashboard
Where are my WIP lenses?
Since WIP (Work In Progress) lenses aren’t included in the Squidoo lensmaster feed, they won’t show up in the dashboard. If this changes in the future, they’ll be included.
Will the action links work if I’m not logged into Squidoo?
The “Edit” and “Stats” links will not work unless you are logged into Squidoo with the same account that’s logged into the dashboard. All other links will work regardless.
Are there additional actions and services for the list?
Click the “Panel” link on the right hand side of any listed lens to open up a window with additional information, links, and services available through the site.
Can another user log into my account?
A user can “login” to your name and see the list of lenses you have built that are featured on Squidoo. This is the same information available to any user that goes to your Squidoo.com user profile and looks around. Some services are still available like backlink checking and ping services, so a user could potentially help promote your lenses without your knowledge, but anyone could have done that via the original services anyways.
A non-authenticated user cannot edit, see the stats, or see the revenue on your lenses in the list. The edit and stats links are automatically generated for the list, but if someone isn’t logged in correctly with Squidoo, they will not function if someone else goes to click them. There is a misconception that by combining the information we have that somehow the functionality we provide is greater than that which we are allowed to. That assumption is false, this site will never breach your security on Squidoo.com. Never. Ever.
We have implemented a check for users currently logged into Squidoo.com vs. logged into SquidTools to determine whether to show the Edit and Stats links. However, since Squidoo lensmasters can have multiple accounts, the flag is there to make sure that person understands that they are not logged into Squidoo.com. The links can be displayed by clicking an override link. This is so we do not inconvenience legitimate users in the instance that a programming error occurs.
Additional language has also been added to our Terms of Use page to help clarify our use of public information. Given that there is a fine line between being informative and scaring people (as well as making the app too annoying for a user to use), there is a limit on how far we will go to “fix” this issue, but we want to make sure that if anyone has questions, the relevant information is available.
